SSDI for diabetic peripheral neuropathy: Help, I Need My Meds!!! I know exactly what and how you feel. Yes, drug companies are giving some help but for those that cannot rely on drug companies; I know for a fact that Costco Pharmacy is the lowest cost for pharmaceuticals. I had a friend who takes Xanax for anxieties and he was paying approximately $70.00 w/no insurance and when he finally stopped being stubborn and called Costco, he was able to save more than $60. Just check your yellow pages or go online to find your nearest Costco Pharmacy. You do not have to be a member of Costco to get prescriptions there.
I don't suffer from diabetic peripheral neuropathy but I do have other problems. We all have different problems, but the symptoms are the same, aren't they? Another reputable pharmacy who comes very close to Costco's prices are the Sam's Pharmacy. Most pharmacies will match another pharmacies price if it's lower except for controlled medications such as Xanax. When you get a RX from your doctor, ask for him/her to write you RX in a larger quantity. Whenever you purchase anything in quantity, it comes out cheaper. That applies to everything you buy.
If you are on Medicare, I hope that you have signed up with their Humana Drug Plan. A plan gets designed up for you individually and the premium you have to pay comes out of your disability check. I'm not into politics but I know enough of what is going on in our world to know that if we do not take responsibility for our own actions, no one will. Most of our supermarkets and local drug stores such as Walgreens, Sweetbay, Publix, etc. all have these drug plans but don't be fooled to sign up so fast without comparing the prices because most of the meds, that we have to take do not come in a generic and that's another sale's technique to have a customer sign up. When you see $12.00 for a year, for example, the pen can't come out of your purse fast enough to sign up. I know I tried it in Walgreens and there was not one of my meds. that applied to the plan so please be careful. I do suggest writing to each company that manufactures your medication and more likely than not, you will get assistance but you must write to them or call their toll free numbers. I know Pfzier has their own discount card available and also we are the one's in pain and we must let our voices be heard and I don't mean going to congress, I mean in the doctor's office. Tell your doctor how expensive your meds are and there are more times than not, another medicine that can be prescribed for you that is so much less expensive. Doctors and the pharmaceutical companies work hand in hand. Ask for samples. The cabinets in the nurses office are not filled with just office supplies; they have samples in them. I am sure all of us see those nicely dressed people with their small luggage totes in the doctor's office walking around. They are the pharmaceutical reps. who leave the samples with your doctors. It blows my mind how many reps. I see walking around in a clinic here in Lakeland FL; Watson. Please do not let doctors intimidate you. Sadly, this is a business when you spell it out but THEY WORK FOR US. I did exactly all that I mentioned in this blog for a dear friend who suffers terribly in pain and within less than 24 hours I was at the pharmacy picking up her free medicine. Doctors are more worried about getting sued and it drives me crazy. We know how we are feeling and what we are feeling and how it keeps us disabled and the last doctor that said to me "I don't want to see you become addicted to this medication", was the last time he ever made that comment to me again. Why? I used the one part of my body that wasn't hurting and that was my voice. If I am old enough and responsible enough to get to my appointment on time, and remember all the questions they ask each time I sign in, I am responsible to make my own decisions about addiction. Every time, I see on the news about a person dieing because of a pain killer he/she took, I turn to my husband and say "that person's doctor will not give another pain killer again." Stop letting these people that wear the white coats act as "gods," they put one shoe on one foot at a time as we do. This is the first time that I ever sent a blog and I just signed up to be a blog member because of what I just read from alonelydragonfly@aol.com and this member happens to be a dear friend to me who I haven't been able to see in three days because she is up all night in pain and cannot sleep so when she finally can sleep, I wish her pleasant dreams. And with that said, to all of you that who can relate to what I blogged, remember to use your voice wisely! Instead of yelling at your spouse for not throwing the garbage out, use that energy for your health care provider. You are stronger than you know! Feel better, Nan
